Weather, Terrain Cause Challenges Rescuing Hiker Near Blowing Rock

Rescuers have located Mr. Senady uninjured.

The Boone Police Department says he in a very rugged area of the trail and weather conditions are causing challenges in his removal.

Authorities say helicopter extrication will not be possible.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Rescue teams are searching for a man last seen hiking near Blowing Rock.

Frank Senady, 67, of Charlotte, reportedly began hiking the China Creek Trail on February 9, 2019, at noon.

The trail is extremely rugged terrain, and is located in Pisgah National Forest.  Officials believe Senady is an experienced hiker and they think he had some supplies with him. He was last seen wearing a red long sleeve shirt, khaki pants and blue Patagonia hat.

Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue, Blowing Rock Police Department, Caldwell Emergency Management, Caldwell County Admin, Collettsville Fire and Rescue, Granite Falls Fire and Rescue, Linville Rescue, US Park Ranger are involved in the search.

Linville Rescue has provided a K9 team and Granite Falls Fire Department has provided a drone, equipped with thermal imaging capabilities.
