CMPD Releases Photos Of Suspects Wanted For Kidnapping Toddler From Unattended Car

CMPD has released photos of the suspects wanted for stealing an unattended vehicle in south Charlotte with a 2-year-old still inside.

Police say one of the suspects has been identified as 18-year-old Jesse Kelly. Kelly is wanted on charges of Larceny of Motor Vehicle, second degree Kidnapping, and Felony Conspiracy in connection to the case.

The second suspect seen in the photos (above) has still not been identified. He is described as a black male, roughly 20-years-old and last seen wearing a black and red jacket over a hoodie.

Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect or the whereabouts of Kelly is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Update (Feb. 6, 2019):

CMPD has released the 911 calls from a south Charlotte car theft and kidnapping on February 4th where an unattended vehicle was stolen with a 2-year-old still inside.

The incident happened at a QuikTrip on South Boulevard around 11:30pm. The child’s mother reportedly left her daughter in the the unlocked car while she ran inside the store. Two suspects then entered the vehicle and took off with the child inside.

The child was located and returned safely to her parents. Police say they are still looking for the two suspects.

Original Story (Feb. 5, 2019):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A child has been reunited with her family after police say she was kidnapped from a car in South Charlotte late Monday night.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called around 11:30 p.m. to the parking lot of the QT convenience store located at 7115 South Boulevard where a child had been kidnapped.

Investigators say an adult female left her Ford Focus running and unlocked with her 2-year-old daughter left alone inside while she went into the store. Two unknown suspects then stole the woman’s car with the child still inside.

The child’s father spotted the stolen car and began following it.

The suspects abandoned the car near the intersection of Arrowood Road at South Boulevard, a very short distance away from where the original theft took place. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Police found the 2-year-old inside the car unharmed. Medic determined she was not injured. The girl was then reunited with her parents.

The mother was issued a ticket for misdemeanor child neglect for leaving her child unattended in a running car.

Police are still searching for the suspects.

CMPD warns drivers that it is illegal to leave a running car unattended.
